Additional Guidelines and Recommendations

  • If overhead rings are suspended and will swing, this reduces the distance to the gripping surface of next ring during use, so spacing recommendations for horizontal ladders do not apply.
  • If overhead rings are stationary, then spacing recommendations for horizontal ladders apply.
  • The remainder of the guidelines for horizontal ladders apply to overhead rings, including horizontal distance to first handhold and height of access components and structures.
  • Swinging dual exercise rings and trapeze bars on long chains are considered athletic equipment and are not used in play areas.
