Review Question
Question: What is the problem with the location of this slide?
View Answer
The slide is located too close to other play equipment. Children exiting the slide chute may run into children playing on/around the nearby equipment.
Correction
Additional Guidelines and Recommendations
- For stand-alone “toddler” slides, the use zone is at least 6 feet all the way around the slide. For composite structures, the minimum use zone between access structures and the side of slide is 3 feet.
- For preschool/school age children, the use zone around the slide is 6 feet, except for the slide exit area. Use zones for the slide exit area (slides 6 feet high or less) are 6 feet. For slides over 6 feet high, the use zone in front of the exit is equal to the height of the slide, up to a maximum of 8 feet.
- Use zones should never overlap for different types of equipment. However, use zones for slide exit areas may overlap if the slides are parallel to each other.
- All use zones contain protective surfacing (ground cover).
