Additional Guidelines and Recommendations

  • All swing structures are spaced with adequate use zones and located away from other equipment to help prevent children from running into the path of moving swings.
  • The use zone for a single axis belt swing extends to the front and rear of the swings a minimum distance of twice the vertical distance from the pivot point to the ground.
  • The use zone for a bucket swing extends to the front and rear a minimum of twice the vertical distance from the top of the occupants sitting surface to the pivot point.
  • The use zones to the sides of a single axis swing set (belt or bucket) extend a minimum of 6 feet.
  • The use zone for a multi-axis swing extends 6 feet plus the length of the suspending members (e.g. suspension chains) in all directions, and extends a minimum of 6 feet from the supporting structure.
  • The use zones of swings never overlap with any other use zones.

Note: Hard plastic animal swings are not recommended and ground cover should extend through the entire use zone.
