The way the swing is hung is a problem because it is not safe.

Additional Guidelines and Recommendations

  • Swings are never hung on a composite structure and only one multi-axis swing per bay.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain the swivel mechanism, as the added stress of rotational movement increases the likelihood of failure. Hanging mechanism do not have any exposed crush points.
  • If steel-belted radials are used, regularly examine them for exposed steel belts or wires and replace if found.
  • Drainage holes must be present on the underside of the tire for drainage.
  • The minimum clearance between the seat of a tire swing and the uprights of the supporting structure is 30 inches.
  • The minimum clearance between the bottom of the seat and the protective surface is 12 inches.
  • Ground cover (protective surfacing) must be in place under the swing.
