Additional Guidelines and Recommendations
- Ground cover may lose its cushioning effect in cold weather.
- When choosing and maintaining ground cover, the following factors must also be considered:1
- Loose fill types of ground cover are never installed over a hard surface (concrete or asphalt).
- Need appropriate depth of materials (see groundcover recommendations).
- Loose fill ground cover needs to be regularly replenished and raked into place.
- It is important to have good drainage to prevent pooling or migration of materials.
- Poured in place or rubber mat ground cover needs to be regularly inspected and repaired as necessary.
- For more information on ground cover, please see the “Fall Protection and Ground Cover” walkthrough.
