Additional Guidelines and Recommendations

For ponds that are not for visitor use:

• Inform all visitors that the water is off limits (if it is not for visitor use).
• If possible, enclose the area around the water with a fence or barrier that has a self-closing, self-latching gate that can be locked.
• Fencing used to prevent visitors from entering these areas is at least four feet high, starts at the ground level, and is designed so children cannot climb it.
