Correction

Bridges that will be used by visitors have even walking surfaces and side rails to prevent falling into the water.

Additional Guidelines and Recommendations

• Walking surface of bridge should be smooth and even, with no boards, nails or screws protruding.
• Side rails for bridges:
  • Space between vertical members should be less than 3 ½ inches.
  • Should be designed so that children are unable to climb sides.
  • Should be free of rough surfaces and protruding nails or screws.
  • Top of rail should be smooth and even, free of rough or splintered wood or anything else that could harm hands.
