Additional Guidelines and Recommendations

  • Ground cover may lose its cushioning effect in cold weather.
  • When choosing and maintaining ground cover, the following factors must also be considered:1
    • Loose fill types of ground cover are never installed over a hard surface (concrete or asphalt).
    • Need appropriate depth of materials (see groundcover recommendations).
    • Loose fill ground cover needs to be regularly replenished and raked into place.
    • It is important to have good drainage to prevent pooling or migration of materials.
    • Poured in place or rubber mat ground cover needs to be regularly inspected and repaired as necessary.
  • For more information on ground cover, please see the “Fall Protection and Ground Cover” walkthrough.
